  • How does a Ladder Tournament work?

Players are arranged top-down (like the rungs of a ladder). Players will be manually ranked by placing all players with varsity experience at the top, J/V players in the middle, and freshman/incoming-freshman placed at the bottom. Don't worry if you feel the rankings aren't totally correct, things will balance out through challenges.

Over the duration of the tournament, players challenge other participants ranked above them to try to work their way up the ladder. When a match is accepted, players arrange a time and place to play that works for both of them. Players are welcome to request a court time at Las Sendas for their matches.

Our tournaments will use the "Leap Frog Plus" system. If the lower-ranked player wins, they "leap" to the position in front of the person that they beat. The "Plus" being that loser can still earn points through games won in the match. The idea is to be at the top of the tennis ladder at the end of the tournament period.

We use the Global Tennis Network, so players will automatically be notified of challenges. Once a match is completed, players will submit their own scores through the GTN and ladder positions will be adjusted automatically.

  • You can challenge opponents ranked no more than THREE places above you.

  • You can have a maximum of TEN "unavailable" days.

  • If you don't play a match in a 7-day span, you will automatically drop ONE rung.

  • If both players have a preferred court, the lower ranked player gets "home court advantage"

  • If neither player has a preferred court, a court at Las Sendas can be requested by reaching out to Coach Sergio.

  • BOTH players are required to bring a can of balls to the match. The LOWER ranked player's balls should be used first.

Don't worry, the GTN app will only allow you to schedule/play matches within the rules of the ladders tournament.
